Arequipa lies at the feet of three mighty volcanoes: Mount Chachani, Mount Misti, and the snow-covered peak of Mount Pichu Pichu. History will dog your footsteps as you explore Arequipa, also named the ‘White City’ due to its glistening white buildings which were built from the volcanic rock ‘sillar’. The Plaza de Armas is one of the most beautiful in the whole of Peru, with its baroque churches and charming colonnaded balconies. The enormous Belgian organ and intricately carved pulpit of the magnificent Cathedral in the plaza is a show-stopper. The districts of Yanahuaraand Cayma are a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Siteand feature mixed baroque churches and mansions from the colonial period. The highlight of the tour is the serene Monastery of Santa Catalina, a Spanish city in miniature with stone streets, beautiful patios, and plazas.
