|
Set out on an epic journey between Adelaide and Alice Springs, travelling approximately 2800km overland via arid mountain ranges, remote outback towns, desert landscapes, giant salt lakes and the awesome Red Centre. Wilpena Pound is one of Australia's most famous landmarks and an area of excellent bushwalking. It is a remarkable natural amphitheatre covering nearly 8000 hectares. The Flinders Ranges National Park is an extremely popular park, and takes in rugged mountain scenery, peaceful timbered gorges, with plenty of wildlife, vegetation and history. Kings Canyon is situated within the Watarrka National Park, and is a huge canyon 270m high. The walk around the rim of the canyon offers spectacular views. Pass the tropical pools of the Garden of Eden, and the beehive rock formations called the Lost City as you walk along the Rim. The UNSCO World Heritage Site Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is home to Ayers Rock (Uluru), the world's largest monolith and an Aboriginal sacred site, Australia's most famous natural landmark.
