15 Day Classic Namibia Tour |
From the wildlife to haunted towns and rare Quiver trees, you will appreciate Namibia's diversity
| Overview | |
The ideal way to experience the essence of Namibia in one trip! Go game spotting, set off on adventure excursions and climb the world’s highest dunes! Begin the tour from Rehoboth, the capital city of the Baster Community, and travel through the Kalahari Desert. Leaving early for Kokerboom Forest via Koes, visit the grove of approximately 200 Quiver Trees, now declared a National Monument. It derives its name from the San hunters who used its dead branches as a quiver for their arrows. Blossoming after 20 to 30 years, these trees can live up to 300 years. Visit the northern fringes of the 160 kilometres long, 550 metre deep Fish River Canyon. Further on you will reach the Atlantic town of Luderitz. Visit Diaz Point, where the original cross that Batholemeu Diaz planted stood. Also visit the ghost town-Kolmanskop, once the richest towns in the world due to its diamond mines. Continue to Sossusvlei, the 305 metre high and 480 kilometres long orange wavy sand dunes, beckoning you with its sheer size and vibrant colours. 60 kilometres away stands the steep Sesriem Canyon that gets its name from early Afrikaner trekkers who had to use six leather thongs to get the bucket to reach the water far below. From Swakopmund, travel towards Walvis Bay’s enormous natural lagoon and lookout for its seabirds. On your way to Damaraland, stop at the archaeological site of Twyfelfontein and Burnt Mountain. Damaraland is one of the most scenic places in Namibia with water streams cutting through plains and grasslands. Further on, visit Otjiwarongo and Etosha National Park, with lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, dainty springbok and elephants. Head towards Tsumeb, a mining town and you will halt at Namibia’s largest permanent natural lake, Otjikoto. It is here where the armies dumped their ammunitions, armaments and weapons during World War I in 1915. Lying in the ‘Otavi Triangle’ the ‘Garden Town’ of Tsumeb is rich in deposits of about 217 minerals. Covering the best of Namibia, this tour will take you through the country’s diverse wildlife and dramatic landscape.
