Sightseeing and things to do in Barcelona

A tour of some of Gaudi's finest work is an essential part of any time spent sightseeing in Barcelona. His wonderful Park Guell is perhaps the finest and most unique urban park anywhere in the world and the simply breathtaking (and still unfinished) Sagrada Familia is as stunning a tribute to God as any man has ever built on Earth.

Catalans are also sports mad, with the source of their main obsession found at Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona. Its hallowed turf has been graced by many of the legends of the game and even now a tour of the stadium is still one of the best things to do in Barcelona.

Introduction to Barcelona

Barcelona has to be seen to be believed. First and foremost, the city's favourite son Antoni Gaudi is the single greatest influence of the urban landscape of the city.

Gaudi's signature is everywhere, scrawled across the walls of his awe-inspiring and utterly unique architectural feats which combine the shapes and forms of organic life with the strict patterns of mathematics and geometry.

Visitors on Barcelona tours cannot fail to appreciate the culinary delights of the city, partly due to its coastal location and while the restaurant consistently named as the finest in the world – Adrian Ferra's El Buli – is located around two hours up the coast, the city itself has many eateries which can rightly boast exceptional food and drink of both local and international cuisine.

Outside the city itself, the rest of Catalonia holds many beautiful bays and wonderful beaches. No Barcelona tours would be complete without a trip to one of the many charming resorts up the coast.

Sagrada Familia

Antonio Gaudi's as yet unfinished masterpiece has come to be the iconic symbol of Barcelona. The uniquely designed cathedral is scheduled to be completed in 2026

Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas is an avenue situated at the heart of the Gothic Quarter which runs from Plaza Catalunya to the harbour. A focal point for the city both for locals and visitors alike the streets are lined with cafes and market stalls and are always bursting with life.

The Gothic Quarter

The Gothic Quarter (or Bari Gotic) is the oldest part of Barcelona. Wander among the narrow streets lined with tall buildings to discover some of Barcelona’s most unique architecture.

Flamenco Shows

The passion, beauty and grace of a Flamenco show has become synonymous with Spain. Barcelona offers a range of excellent Flamenco clubs which are a must-visit.

Casa Mila

Casa Mila (also known as La Pedrera) is an apartment complex designed by Antonio Gaudi. The building is famous for having absolutely no straight lines. A place that must be seen to be believed.

Picasso Museum

The Picasso Museum Barcelona contains nearly 4000 works from the legendry artists early career. It was Picasso’s wish that after his death these works be displayed in the city which he held in such high esteem.

Barcelona Zoo

A family favourite – the Barcelona Zoo is home to over 400 species of animals from all corners of the globe. Some of the main crowd-pullers are the Gorillas, Tigers and one of the world’s largest reptile houses.

The Olympic Village

Situated on the Barcelona seafront the Olympic Village was built to accommodate athletes during the 1992 summer Olympics. Now a recreational area the Olympic village is scatted with unique sculptures and is a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll.

Camp Nou (FC Barcelona Ground)

Camp Nou, Catalan for "new camp" is the home ground of the legendary FC Barcelona. A major visitor attraction in Barcelona, take a stadium tour during the day or book match tickets to witness some of the most spectacular football you are ever likely to see.
