Ko Samui is a coconut island that enthrals backpackers and leisure travellers alike. It is the third largest island in Thailand with white beaches, samui beachfront villas, blue skies and coconut trees. Stroll along popular beaches like the Chaweng, known for its turquoise waters and visit the palm fringed Lamai beach. Spot a variety of birds and animals, go diving or just sit back and work on your tan on one of the region’s many beaches. Quieter beaches like the Bophut, Choeng Mon, and the fisherman beach town Hua Thanon also promise a lot for the vacationer. Another famous tourist attraction is the popular shrine and meditation centre at Big Buddha. This archipelago has more than 60 islands and is located in the Gulf of Siam, about 84 km east of the Surat Thani province. The sea is calm between February and April, the best time to visit Samui. Beaches, coconuts and seagulls are the main attractions of this tropical island.
