This private tour offers you greater flexibility and you can spend as much or as little time at any of the places that you visit. Unlike the tight and fixed schedules of coach tours, the private option allows you to do the tour at your own pace.
This tour departs from Chiang Mai and heads south for the two ancient towns of Lampang and Lampoon. We profile some of the activities and sights on this tour.
• Lampang, once a walled city and centre of the teak industry still retains its charm and has preserved its ancient monuments.
• One of Lampang’s unique features - for transportation – is the trademark colourful pony carriages. It is the only town to still do so.
• The town claims to have the world's only training school for baby elephants.
• The Lampang Elephant Conservation Center is the first place in Thailand to train elephants for work. You will get to see the elephants pull logs, play tug-of-war with one another and demonstrate their various skills.
• After the demonstration you get to take a swaying ride, on one of these magnificent creatures, into the surrounding jungle. This is a great opportunity to spot wild animals and birds.
• There will be a break for lunch around this time.
• After lunch we set off to visit another ancient walled town – Lampoon.
• Lampoon was the former capital of the Mon Kingdom of Northern Thailand.
• Lampoon has many beautiful and ancient temples that are still well preserved.
• The most famous and venerated temple is Wat Phra That Haripunjaya (Footprint Temple) with its intricately carved sanctuary doors.
• Among other claims to fame – the movie - Rambo III was filmed at this temple.
• After the trip you will be returned to your hotel or airport (if you prefer).
