This tour is available in two options – coach and private. The private option offers you greater flexibility and you can spend as much or as little time at any of the places that you visit. Unlike the tight and fixed schedules of coach tours, the private option allows you to do the tour at your own pace.
This half day tour is a most rewarding one. You will get to visit one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Thailand and to see the colourful and Meo tribal people close-up and their charming village.
• Getting to Wat Phra Borommathat Doi Suthep is just a short drive from Chiang Mai.
• The temple is then approached on foot by climbing some two hundred and ninety steps up the steep Naga stairway.
• The less energetic or those that are physically challenged or disabled may ascend by funicular railcars.
• The giant chedi (or stupa) is covered with gold and contains the Buddha relics.
• The walls are covered with some very impressive murals based on the teachings of Buddha.
• The view across Chiang Mai City and the Ping river valley is breathtaking and makes the exhausting climb worthwhile.
• After your visit to Doi Suthep you will then be taken on trip to visit a Meo (also known as Hmong) tribal village.
• The village of the Hmong (Meo) people – Doi Pui – is about 4 kilometres from the temple of Doi Suthep.
• The visit will give you an insight into how Thailand’s tribal people live and their customs.
• Their houses are built with the floor off the ground with storage space for food supplies or animals benath.
• The people are generally clad in blue, black and red tribal costumes and love wearing silver ornaments.
• After this rewarding tour you will be taken back to your hotel or airport (if you prefer).
