You will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from the bus parking near Zurich Main Train Station (Stop: Sihlquai, Streetcar: 4, 13). Accompanied by a multi-lingual guide speaking English and German, you will be taken on a city tour of Zurich. It is the largest city in Switzerland and is the cultural and commercial capital of the country.
You will pass through Bahnhofstrasse (station street), one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues. Further on, proceed to the popular shopping street of Limmatquai and you will come across elegant old-guild houses. Visit Lindenhof, situated between Bahnhofstrasse and the left bank of Limmatquai. It is the site of a Roman fort and later of an imperial stronghold. You will see a fountain in the square that immortalizes a day in 1292 when the women of Zurich saved the city from the invaders. It is believed that when the city was on the verge of defeat, women resolute to avoid humiliation, donned armour and marched up to Lindenhof. Visit the largest church clock-face of Europe in St. Peter, the guild-houses and the lake (photo ops).
Continue to Zurichberg district and you will come across elegant mansions, the University and Grossmunster (photo op) – a magnificent Romanesque and gothic cathedral, with a high Romanesque cloister. Visit the Fraumunster Church, founded in 853 AD by King Louis the German. The church was largely patronized by the kings and had the right to mint coins in Zurich until the 13th century. Appreciate its stunning stained glass windows by renowned French painter, Marc Chagall.
After a tour of the city, you will be taken to the Zurich Zoo. The zoo is home to more than 300 species comprising lemurs, giant tortoise, Hottentot ducks and a variety of flora and fauna from Madagascar. You can also visit the amphibian exhibition and attend feeding sessions of seals, penguins and apes. You have free time in the zoo.
The tour ends at the Zurich Zoo.
