You will be picked up in an air-conditioned coach from the bus parking near Zurich Main Train Station (Stop: Sihlquai, Streetcar: 4, 13). Accompanied by a multi-lingual guide speaking English, Spanish and German, you will journey through Central Switzerland and along the Lake of the Four Cantons to the city of Lucerne. It is the capital of the Canton of Lucerne and an important tourist destination due to its location on the shore of Lake Lucerne within sight of Mount Pilatus and Rigi.
You will be taken on a short city tour and shown the main sites, including a visit to the Lion Monument. The famous carving of a dying lion by Bertel Thorvaldsen, a renowned Danish/Icelandic sculptor, commemorates the hundreds of Swiss guards who were massacred during the French Revolution in 1792.
Further on, proceed to Kriens, a municipality in the district of Lucerne, at the foot of Mount Pilatus. From Kriens, take a panorama gondola and cable-car ride (about 40 minutes) to the summit of Mount Pilatus, at an altitude of 2132 meters. From the top, enjoy magnificent views of the Alps, the surrounding mountains and lakes.
Summer Special:
Time at leisure for lunch (optional) or to hike to the summit and enjoy the breathtaking view over the Swiss Alps and the lake. Descent on the world's steepest cogwheel railway to Alpnachstad, followed by a lovely boat ride to Lucerne.
Winter Special:
Take the Dragon Path, an easy stroll through the rock gallery on Mount Pilatus. Visit one of the summit restaurants and sample some Swiss Cheese Raclette, a speciality of Switzerland. Or you could sample a Pilatus-Rosti (potato dish). You are at leisure for about two and a half hours on Mount Pilatus to enjoy the scenery and take up short hikes.
After the tour, take the cable-car back to Kriens. From Kriens, board your coach for a return journey to Zurich. The tour ends in the Zurich bus station.
