There is no hotel pick-up for your Montreux and Chillon Tour. You board your comfortable air-conditioned coach at Lausanne, 'Place du Port' in front of the castle of Ouchy.
With your English and French-speaking guide, you will drive through the attractive Swiss countryside and along Lake Geneva to the awe-inspiring Castle of Chillon. This 13th century fortress is magnificently situated on a rocky islet in the lake. In former days it guarded an important trade route to Italy.
You will enjoy a fascinating tour of the turreted castle, including its interesting museum collection and its grim dungeons. These dungeons were immortalized in a poem by Lord Byron, 'The Prisoner of Chillon'.
Leaving the castle, you will take a short 15 minutes trip in a paddle-steamer down the sparkling lake to Montreux, just like visitors to the Swiss lakes did in the 19th century.
Cradled in a sheltered Lake Geneva bay, Montreux has an exceptionally mild climate and has been dubbed 'the capital of the Swiss Riviera'. Plants of the Mediterranean, such as cypresses and palms, grow here. The climate and scenery have led many celebrities, such as Charlie Chaplin and Freddie, Mercury to make Montreux their home.
You will have time to enjoy the long flower-bordered lake promenade, or explore the chic shops of this glamorous town.
Afterwards you will board your coach and return to Lausanne along the motorway. You will be dropped off at the starting point at 'Place du Port' in front of the castle of Ouchy.
