For your Valldemossa & La Cartuja Monastery Tour from North Mallorca you will be picked up in the morning by coach from one of the designated spots in North Mallorca (Cala San Vincente, Pollensa, Puerto Pollensa, Alcudia or Ca'n Picafort). An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this delightful excursion.
Your route takes you into the Serra de Tramuntana to visit historic Lluch, Mallorca’s most sacred site, an old monastery nestling in the mountains. Lluch has been a place of pilgrimage since the 13th century, when an Arab shepherd boy, newly converted to Christianity, discovered a statue of the Virgin in a cleft in the rock. Learn the story of the statue and what happened to it.
Travel past orange groves and ancient olive terraces to the town of Sóller. With its famous port, lovely old buildings, open plazas and lush gardens, Sóller is one of the most photographed locations in Spain.
Continue to the quaint village of Valldemossa, with its stone houses and steep winding streets. You will visit La Cartuja Monastery where Polish pianist and composer Frederic Chopin spent a winter with his lover Amantine Dupin (the writer ‘George Sand’). See the neoclassic Church, cloisters, and monks’ living quarters, and enjoy the tranquil gardens. Documents commemorating the visit by Chopin and Sand in 1838/39 are on show to visitors and the complex also has an art collection including a number of contemporary works.
At the end of your memorable tour you will be transferred back to the place where you were picked up.
