Enjoy the view from the waterfront then take a short drive to El Born. This part of town, now a fashionable district, dates from medieval times. You will enjoy a 90 minute walking tour which takes you through El Born, the Gothic quarter and Las Ramblas.
As you go, you will follow Pablo Picasso’s life in Barcelona, where he came to live in 1894. The story starts in Carrer de la Plata, where Picasso shared his first studio in 1896 with his friend and colleague Manuel Pallarès.
Later he moved to another studio in Carrer dels Escudellers Blancs, the heart of the Gothic district. Enjoy walking through the winding streets of this old part of town with its lovely medieval buildings.
You will see Els Quatre Gats, a café which opened in 1897. It also operated as a hostel, cabaret, pub and restaurant, and was a center for bohemian life and modernism in Barcelona. Social gatherings, exhibitions and concerts held here attracted Picasso and other young students. In 1899 Picasso designed a menu for Quatre Gats.
In 1900, Picasso had his first independent exhibition at Quatre Gats but he had not yet established his individual style. You will see the Parés Gallery, where he held a more serious exhibition in 1901.
You will visit the Picasso Museum housed in the medieval Aguilar Place. With more than 3,600 pieces, it has one of the largest collections of Picasso’s works anywhere in the world and includes important pieces from his early career. Above all, it celebrates Picasso’s special relationship with Barcelona, which lasted all his life.
You will spend about 90 minutes at the museum and then have 30 minutes at your leisure before boarding your vehicle to return to the waterfront.
Your tour ends at the port of Barcelona.
