The Gaudi Tour is a must for anyone visiting Barcelona! There is no hotel pick up for this excursion. To meet your guide make your way to Plaza Catalunya in the city center.
You will depart with your guide in a comfortable air-conditioned coach to see the best of Gaudi's work in Barcelona. You will spend approximately 55 minutes at Park Güell, around 1 hour 5 minutes on a panoramic coach ride, and about 1 hour at Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece – the Sagrada Familia.
Antoni Gaudí, visionary architect during the Modernist (Art Nouveau) period early last century, graced Barcelona with nearly all his extraordinary and beautiful buildings. No less than seven have been listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
Highlights of your tour include:
• Passeig de Gràcia: On your panoramic coach tour you will drive down this elegant avenue lined with luxury and designer shops. Notice the attractive art nouveau lamp-posts with foliage details and the exciting modernist buildings. Look out for two of Gaudí’s houses – Casa Batlló and Casa Milà – as well as the Casa Amatller designed by Puig i Cadafalch.
• Park Güell: Your guide will take you on a tour of this surreal and stunningly beautiful park. A true expression of Gaudí's genius, it includes extraordinary features such as the longest continuous park bench in the world, decorated with multi-hued mosaics. See the world-famous dragon fountain, sadly vandalized in 2007: now lovingly restored.
• Casa Museu Gaudi: The house in Park Güell where Gaudi lived from 1906 to 1925, now a museum. After the guided tour, you have 15 minutes free time in the Park, so you could pay a quick visit (entrance fee not included).
• Sagrada Familia church: Your knowledgeable guide will treat you to a tour of Gaudí's massive masterpiece, under construction since 1882. Your guide can explain the rich Christian symbolism in every part of the design. You can go up the towers by elevator, visit the crypt and museum and compare the contrasting styles of the Birth and Passion façades.
On leaving Sagrada Familia you will board your coach for the return journey. At the end of the tour you will be dropped off back at the meeting point in Pl Catalunya. However, if you wish to stay longer in Sagrada Familia, you are free to do so and to make your own way back to your accommodation.
