Many cities have growing communities of Chinese immigrants, however, few are so vibrant and active as that of Singapore. This tour takes you through the hustle and bustle of Chinatown as you come to understand fascinating Chinese traditions carried to a new land. You’ll hear about key customs that mark the passage of life in Chinese culture from both the modern and traditional perspectives, as well as the reasons behind them.

You can take the opportunity to have your fortune told and look at unique Chinese wares; learn about Yin and Yang and its role in Chinese medicine while you watch the paper lanterns swing in the breeze. This three-hour journey through Chinese life in Singapore’s Chinatown will remind you that even in a new country, rich and fascinating traditions are still in practice today.

Your Traditions of Chinatown Tour will begin at 8:30am when you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the tour coordination centre, from which the walk begins.

The tour guide will then take you through Chinatown, a bustling neighbourhood full of Chinese tradition: shops selling unique Chinese goods, lanterns hanging above the streets, and occasionally the delicious smell of fresh Chinese food. As you walk, learn about the lives of Chinese immigrants and customs marking their journey through life, such as carrying red umbrellas at weddings and burning paper mansions at funerals.

You’ll come to understand the history behind these actions as well as their modern interpretations during the tour. You’ll also have the chance to have your fortune told by a fortune-teller, and to learn about Yin and Yang in relation to Chinese medicine.

Your tour will end approximately three hours after the start at a Heritage Brand Shop for tea appreciation with traditional wedding pastries and from there you are free to do as you wish.
