  • Check out the ancient wonders at the Brukenthal Palace Museum
  • Learn about life in the Romanian hinterlands at an open-air museum
  • Spend a peaceful night in the Romanian countryside

Spend a day exploring the ancient treasures of Sibiu and spend an evening in the heart of the Romanian hinterland.

The largest and wealthiest of the walled cities built by the Transylvanian Saxons in the 12th century, the medieval allure of Sibiu has been wonderfully preserved.

Explore a palace-cum-museum from the 18th century, where medieval weaponry, rare artwork, and ancient Romanian literature are on display.

Admire the Gothic splendor of the Evangelical Cathedral—which towers above the town at a height of 74 meters—and learn how the son of Dracula met his bloody fate.

Venture to the small hamlet of Sibiel, where you’ll enjoy a home-cooked Saxon meal at a traditional rural inn and spend a night in the quaint Romanian countryside.

Itinerary

Day 1: Bucharest-Sibiu, Sibiu-Sibiel:

This Sibiu city tour kicks off with a pick-up up from the Bucharest Airport in an air-conditioned European car/ minibus/ coach (depending on the number of travelers) by an English-speaking driver/ guide.

Transfer to Sibiu, a former European capital of culture that is built on two levels—the 'upper town', which contains most of Sibiu's historic sights, and the 'lower tower', which is a labyrinth of old houses and cobbled squares.

Visit the Village Museum, which is one of the largest open-air museums in Eastern Europe. It chronicles the history of Romania’s peasant settlements and features great examples of rural architecture.

The Brukenthal Palace This national museum houses the works of famous artists like Rubens, Van Dyck, and Frans Snyder. It also has an impressive collection of valuable silverware, religious objects, ancient manuscripts, and captivating old photographs of Sibiu.

Visit the Evangelical Cathedral, an exemplary piece of Gothic architecture and the tallest building in Transylvania.

Journey even deeper into Saxon Transylvania with a transfer to Sibiel, a gorgeous 20-kilometer drive from Sibiu. You’ll spend the night in a charming country inn in this traditional village, where you’ll get to enjoy a delicious home made Saxon dinner. Day 2: Sibiel-Bucharest Airport:

Awake to a Swedish breakfast at your country inn and be transferred to Sibiel’s main tourist attraction, the Icon Museum. Here, you’ll find the largest collection of painted glass icons in Europe, with more than 700 pieces of furniture and ceramics on display.

Transfer back to Bucharest Airport to catch your return flight.
