Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel in San Juan in an air-conditioned minibus for your Farjardo Bioluminescent Bay Tour. Alternatively, you can be picked up from the airport or the pier. A bilingual guide (English and Spanish-speaking) will accompany you on this delightful small group tour.

You will be driven for just over an hour until you reach Fajardo. You will then climb into a kayak and paddle through Cape San Juan Nature Reserve with your eco guide.

Follow the labyrinth of natural channels leading into the Laguna Grande and, as dusk falls, prepare yourself for a truly magical experience. As the stars tiwnkle above you will notice, with each stroke of your paddle, a swirling glow of light, like foot prints in a liquid world.

Move your hand through the water and you will see it light up with a thousand tiny sparks. This is the secret of Bioluminescent Bay, one of nature's wonders. The mysterious blue-green light, (also known as phosphorescence) is caused by microscopic plankton which glow when they are touched.

Scientists believe bioluminescence is part of a natural defense mechanism triggered by the movement of predators. It occurs at intervals in warm seas in many parts of the world, but Puerto Rico is one of the only places on earth where you can be sure to see it every evening.

Your enchanting kayaking adventure lasts around 2.5 hours.

Afterwards you will be driven back to San Juan and dropped off at the pick-up point.
