Overview

To look at it today, you’d never know the quiet town of Kutna Hora was once a thriving commercial center of medieval Europe.

Built around lucrative silver mines during the economic boom of the 13th century, Kutna Hora soon became the second most important city in Bohemia behind Prague. The place still retains much of its rich architecture and medieval character.

Visit St. Barbara’s Cathedral, which ranks among the finest examples of late Gothic architecture in Europe.

Take a trip to the former royal mint, where the local silver was turned into medieval currency.

You’ve never laid eyes on anything like the Sedlec Ossuary. It may look deceptively like a normal medieval church on the outside, but its interior is elaborately decorated with human bones.

Itinerary

To join the tour please proceed your way to Republic Square 3 (The yellow kiosk of Prague Sightseeing Tours & Cityrama) from there board an air-conditioned coach to kick off this Kutná Hora sightseeing tour.

Relax on the 50-minute drive to Kutna Hora, a UNESCO world heritage city. Built in the 13th century around an extensive silver ore field, Kutna Hora rapidly became the second most important town after Prague in medieval Bohemia.

Visit the Church of St. Barbara, the town’s biggest draw, where soaring arches and piercing spires are matched on the inside by intricately detailed frescoes.

Visit the former royal mint, which once coined groschen, the currency of choice in medieval Central Europe

No trip to Kutna Hora would be complete without a stop at the Sedlec Ossuary. This building contains 40,000 human skeletons that have been artistically arranged to form macabre decorations and furnishings, including a chandelier and a coat of arms.

You will be returned to Republic Square in Prague at tour’s end.
