For your delightful Private Wine Tasting Tour – Lisbon you should make your way to Largo Camões, a square right in the heart of Lisbon, to meet your guide.
Stop for a minute to enjoy the square. In its center is a monumental statue of 16th century epic poet, Luis de Camões, standing on a pedestal with other smaller statues of classical Portuguese authors. This part of town has historically been a meeting place for artists and intellectuals.
Your guide will tell you about the history of the area and point out important buildings. You will then take the tram and head to Belém, a beautiful district where you will learn more about the famous Portuguese explorers and their adventures on the high seas.
Belém is full of historical treasures, including the 16th century Monastery of the Hieronymites. Standing at the entrance to Lisbon harbor, this is a magnificent example of Portuguese architectural genius. The nearby Tower of Belém, built to commemorate Vasco da Gama's great expedition, is a reminder of the great voyages of discovery that laid the foundations of the modern world.
In Belém, your guide will take you to a wine house for a wine tasting session. You will sample five fabulous Portuguese wines while an expert tells you about each one - their stories, secrets and flavors - in a relaxed and informal setting.
Four of the wine tastings will be accompanied by Portuguese tapas of cheese or sausage, carefully selected to match each wine. The fifth and last wine sample will be Port and with this you will enjoy a cake chosen as one of the world’s top tastes by a leading UK newspaper. The delicious cake, made from a secret 19th century recipe, is so good people will queue for a long time to buy it. But you will be able to ‘skip the line’ for this gastronomic delight!
The tour ends at Praça do Comércio and you will need to make your own arrangements for getting back to your accommodation.
