  • Overview & Itinerary

    Overview

The Grand Canyon may be the most striking and humbling of nature’s inventions, a seemingly boundless gorge carved by the Colorado River.

This tour is structured like a scenic crescendo, taking you through some of the Southwest’s most beautiful and formidable landscapes before arriving at the unsurpassed spectacle of the Grand Canyon.

See the extraordinary sandstone formations in Sedona’s Red Rock Country, and enjoy a narrated tour of the expansive Sonoran Desert.

Trace your way along the slender roads that cut through Oak Creek Canyon and go shopping for keepsakes at a Native American art shop.

Your tour culminates at the Grand Canyon, a natural sculpture garden of stone that will leave you without words.

    Itinerary

You will be picked up in a coach (vans will be used for smaller groups) from your hotel in Phoenix/Scottsdale for this Grand Canyon via Sedona tour. You will be accompanied by a guide who knows the area inside and out.

Drive to Sedona through the Sonoran Desert, while you are regaled with a full narration on the history and ecology of this harshly beautiful landscape.

Stop in Sedona’s Red Rock country, where you’ll be awed by the rust-colored buttes, pinnacles, and canyons that rise stark and stunning from desert sands. You’ll have time to take a coffee break (payable direct) and snap some photos of the incredible scenery.

Navigate the hairpin turns of Oak Creek Canyon, a spectacular river gorge embellished by forests of pine and juniper, on your way to the vast Navajo Indian Reservation.

Stop at the Cameron Trading Post and shop for beautiful Native American jewelry and crafts against the backdrop of the Painted Desert. Lunch will also be served here (payable direct), with Navajo Tacos and hearty Fry Bread sure to satisfy.

Arrive finally at one of nature’s great Cathedrals, the incomparable Grand Canyon. Soak up the boundless wonders of the canyon from a magnificent overlook along the rim drive and take a short walk at your leisure.

Stops will be made along the canyon’s east and south rims, where the scale and splendor of nature’s genius will leave you breathless. The Canyon stretches for 277 miles, reaches a depth of nearly a mile, and showcases some 2 billion years of geological history.

Enjoy a brief stop for dinner on the return drive at the Valley of the Sun, where you can reflect on your sojourn through some of America’s most staggering country.

You will be dropped back at your Phoenix/Scottsdale hotel at the end of the tour.
