Nestled in the Andes at a height of 3400 meters, the ancient city of Cusco is a city with some of the most stunning views in the world. Surrounded by six mountains, it is the oldest city in the western hemisphere and the cradle of the ancient Inca civilization. Its proximity to the amazing archaeological ruins of Machu Picchu makes it a hugely popular destination.

Stone archways and cobblestone paths lead to the sacred capital of the Incas. The city is replete with the finest Incan stonework and dotted with charming Spanish style architecture, colonial arcades and red tiled roofs.

Fascinating Inca ruins vie for attention all around Cusco. The ‘Coricancha’ or Temple of the Sun, today stripped of its gold by Spanish conquerors, was dedicated to the sun God, Inti. Legend has it that the walls of the complex were lined with 700 sheets of gold weighing up to 2 kg!

Itinerary

This tour is available in two options: coach and private. The private option offers you greater convenience and flexibility of time.

You will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and taken in an air-conditioned vehicle for a sightseeing tour of Cusco and the surrounding Inca ruins. A bilingual guide will accompany you on this tour.

The highlights of your city tour of Cusco are:

• The Koricancha, or the Temple of the Sun, which showcases the incredible masonry of the Incas.

From Cusco, enjoy the drive to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman on the hill above the city of Cusco. The views from here down the Andean valley and overlooking the city are spectacular.

You will then continue on to the underground cave and temple of Kenko, Puca-Pucara, the red fortress and then to Tambomachay, known as the “Baths of the Inca” due to its thermal springs.

Begin the drive back down to Cusco.

At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back at your hotel in Cusco.
