Activity Overview

Since Wellington is pretty compact (good luck trying to find parking), the best way to explore the city center is on foot. The hilly terrain can make this a challenge, but the bus system and cable car help.

The best place to start exploring the city from is the Civic Square.

It's at the heart of the city, and contains the Visitor Information Center where you can get all sorts of information on what's happening and where things are. Its also a great point of reference for managing trips around the city.

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your Wellington accommodations.

In your 2 ½ hours tour, you will enjoy the following: The Beehive: This building, conceived by British architect Sir Basil Spence during 1964, officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The building is ten stories and 72 metres high.

Parliament buildings: The main building of the complex is Parliament House, containing the Debating Chamber, Speaker's Office, Visitors' Centre and committee rooms.

Old St Paul's Cathedral: It is a former cathedral in the Diocese of Wellington of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. It is an example of 19th-century Gothic Revival architecture adapted to colonial conditions and materials.

Lady Norwood Garden: The Lady Norwood Garden was opened in 1950. Inside garden are over 3000 varieties of roses planted in many rose beds, providing a vast display of colour when in bloom.

Mount Victoria: Mount Victoria is a mixture of residential and commercial activity on the western flank of the ridge.
