Overview

Marvel at the natural wonders of Te Anau in New Zealand. The name Te Anau Caves means 'caves of rushing waters'. It is a place of waterfalls, rapids and whirlpools. These spectacular limestone caverns are famous for seeing glow worms. Explore this mysterious underground world of rushing water before drifting in silent darkness beneath the luminous shimmer of thousands of glowworms.

Itinerary

The tour to the Glowworm Caves departs from Real Journeys Visitors Centre, Lakefront, Te Anau. Please make your own arrangements to reach this place.

Cruise across beautiful Lake Te Anau on board the new luxury catamaran Luminosa to Cavern House located on the western shores. During the cruise enjoy the large outdoor viewing deck or relax inside the spacious cabin. Your crew will share stories about the natural history and early pioneers to the region.

On arrival join your nature guide for your Te Anau Glowworm Caves experience both above and below ground. Highlights include the spectacular Tunnel Burn Stream that flows the caves system. Observe water at work sculpturing the limestone and learn about this young and dynamic cave system. Deep underground groups are transferred into small boats to drift silently along the river below a magical display of the New Zealand Glowworm.

Above ground your guide will explain in detail aspects of the cave and its various inhabitants in our well-appointed visitor and interpretation centre.

Return by catamaran to Te Anau.
