Activity Overview

Step back in time and explore the Bay of Islands as was done in Captain Cook's day! Set out on a sailing adventure on board the Bay of Island's icon, the R.Tucker Thompson, popularly called the Tall Ship. Enjoy an interactive experience where you can help set the sails, take the helm or simply relax and enjoy this beautiful part of New Zealand.

The best way to see the Bay of Islands is from the water, and the nicest way to see it is from on board the Tall Ship.

Itinerary

Your sailing adventure on board the Tall Ship , otherwise known as R.Tucker Thompson, starts from Russell Wharf, Bay of Islands. Those wishing to join the tour from Paihia can make their way here by the 0930h (9.30am) ferry connection.

Board your vessel. The R.Tucker Thompson is spacious, with plenty of room on board to relax, read a book and soak up the sun (but don't forget your sunblock!). If you fancy something more energetic, then the crew will show you how to set the sails and you help sail the ship.

Sip your morning tea and marvel at the sight of more than 150 islands that dot the Bay.

At lunch time, there will be an island stopover at one of the islands en route.

The crew will find a sheltered cove and you can head ashore, have a swim or stay on board and have a drink (payable direct). When you get back, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch on board your sailing vessel.

Experience the awesome feeling as the wind fills the sails and you head homewards.

The tour ends at Russell Wharf.
