You will be picked up from your hotel in Christchurch and taken in an air-conditioned luxury vehicle for a Whale Watching tour to Kaikoura. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour.
Travel through the scenic countryside of pastoral North Canterbury to Kaikoura where mountains meet sea. Listen to informative commentary aboard the coach during your journey. The journey to Kaikoura takes approximately 3 hours.
On arrival in Kaikoura you will join a whale watch tour by boat. Giant Sperm Whales are the stars of the show and year-round residents.
A typical Whale Watch tour may encounter New Zealand Fur Seals, pods of Dusky Dolphins and the endangered Wandering Albatross. Depending on the season you may also see migrating Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, Blue Whales and Southern Right Whales. Kaikoura often hosts the world's largest dolphin - the Orca - and is home to the world's smallest and rarest - the Hector's. Kaikoura also attracts the largest concentration and variety of seabirds on mainland New Zealand including 13 species of albatross, 14 varieties of petrels and seven types of shearwater.
Following a delicious lunch, there will be time to explore fur seal colony on the rocky shores which surround Kaikoura. This stop provides a great photo opportunity.
Here will be halt for wine tasting awine tasting, at either a Waipara Springs or Kaikoura Vineyard.
At the end of this memorable tour you will be dropped back at your hotel in Christchurch.
