Itinerary

For your Coast & Rainforest Tour you will be picked up from your hotel in downtown Auckland at around 1000h (10:00am).

Accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced driver/guide you will set off for an exciting day tour of the coast and countryside around Auckland.

Your first stop is at the Arataki Visitor Information Centre situated within the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. The eye-popping panoramic views from the decks extend from the Tasman Sea to the Pacific Ocean.

At Arataki you can learn about the Maori history of the Waitakere Ranges, and about the impact of the European settlers in the 19th century. A 12 metre pou (guardian post), carved by the local Maori people of Te Kawerau a Maki and depicting their ancestors, stands at the entrance to the Visitor Centre.

Your tour continues to the rugged west coast where the guide will walk you through an area of Auckland's coastal rainforest. You then get the opportunity to stroll on a strikingly lovely beach with unusual black sand. The forest and beach walk will take around an hour altogether.

Afterwards, you can enjoy a Kiwi-style picnic lunch at a scenic location.

Your journey then takes you to an area of untouched original rainforest with mature 1,000 year old kauri trees. New Zealand has existed for millions of years in isolation and during that time it has evolved its own unique flora and fauna. Seventy per cent of native New Zealand plants are found nowhere else in the world.

At the end of a thrilling day in glorious surroundings out you will be dropped back at your hotel in Auckland.
