Good to know

The best time to visit New York museums is May through October.  November through April brings freezing temps, snow, and sleet; although, April is definitely the mildest of these months.  Regardless, a New York museums trip really doesn’t require good weather, considering visitors will be indoors at the museums for most of the time.  One sneaky benefit of taking a New York museums tour during the winter is that the museums are far less crowded than summer.  And, speaking of summer, it remains the busiest time of year in terms of tourism.  You can expect longer lines and significant crowding at the top New York museum attractions.  But, it’s the shoulder seasons of May/June and September/October that offer the best combination of mild weather and smaller crowds.  In terms of the best time of day to visit New York museums, you’ll find that the crowds swell a couple of hours before and after lunchtime.  So, it’s often better to arrive just as the doors open or a few hours before they close.  It’s what to do in New York if you don’t feel like to elbowing your way to your favorite exhibit.
