Enjoy thrilling live performances of song and dance and an exciting mock battle. Tuck into a traditional Fijian ‘lovo’ meal cooked slowly underground, a method that preserves the flavors beautifully.
The Village also boasts shops filled with fascinating wares. Dramatic carvings, wall hangings, paintings, books, fascinating and funky clothing are in abundance. It’s an Aladdin’s Cave of exotic and stimulating ‘stuff.’
There are three options for your exciting Pacific Harbour Arts Village Tour. The main part of the tour is the same for all options but there are differences in the resort transfer arrangements. The three options are:
• Pacific Harbour Arts Village Tour from Nadi Hotels/First Landing Resort
• Pacific Harbour Arts Village Tour from Coral Coast (Warwick Resort Fiji & Naviti Resort)
• Pacific Harbour Arts Village Tour from Coral Coast (Shangri-La)
The Arts Village is the best of Fijian culture mixed with a fantastic shopping experience and is unique in all of Fiji. This cultural tour offers a fun-filled day, and a chance to sample the lifestyle, hospitality and customs of Fiji in a beautiful setting.
At the start of the tour you will be picked up from your resort and taken to the Arts Village at Pacific Harbour.
Your journey back into Fijian history starts on board a palm-thatched double canoe. The trip will take you around a lake filled with colourful water lilies where a traditional Fijian village has been reconstructed. With a warrior, in full warfare costume, as your tour guide and skipper you will visit a chief's home (or bure), a cooking area with traditional utensils, and a weaving hut. You can jump out of the boat and enter the demonstration houses to get involved in traditional activities and crafts such as mat preparation and pottery.
Another attraction is a mock battle between Fijian warriors in traditional dress portraying an ancestral tribal war and the days of cannibalism.
You can also wander through the most sacred place of Ancient Fiji into the Island Temple or bure kalou, the "Spirit House". This magnificent building stands a whopping 70 feet (the tallest in Fiji). Join the priest as he petitions the gods for a prediction of the future, then warns the warring Chief of his impending doom. Be part of the action in this exciting and interactive tour.
At lunch-time you can enjoy a typical Fijian “lovo” meal, local chicken, palusami – (taro leaves with coconut milk), and Dalo (taro) slow-cooked in a traditional underground oven. The taste is like a barbeque, only a little more smoked, and it’s a very efficient way to cook large quantities of food at the same time.
Boasting more than 50 shops, the Arts Village is also a great place for shopping. There’s an exciting range of funky clothing and accessory stores and genuine Fijian handicrafts (many made on site). You also find a quality supermarket, bank, beauty salon, and over 14 food outlets including cafés, juice bar, ice cream parlour, salad bar and much more.
At the end of your day of fun and fantasy you will be dropped back at your resort hotel.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
If you require a vegetarian option for lunch please enquire at time of reservation.
