Excursion from Marrakech: Ouarzazate Sightseeing Tour with Lunch

Set out on a day excursion from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, located in a valley at the foot of the striking Atlas Mountains range in Morocco. The journey itself is a spectacular one and takes you up to about 6000 feet above sea level to the Tizi N Tichka Pass through one of Morocco’s most winding and breath-taking roads.

The red clay paths of the Atlas Mountains lead to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou near Ouarzazate, a beautiful 11th century Kasbah. Aït Ben Haddou looks like a red-earth medieval village which has been lost in time. Several Hollywood blockbusters have been filmed in the fine desert landscape of Ouarzazate, such as ‘Gladiator’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, and ‘Mission Cleopatra’.

Ouarzazate has typical Kasbah-style architecture evident in the Taourirt Kasbah, former residence of the Glaoui, last sultan of the Atlas.

The beautiful sights of the Atlas Mountains and the rich Moroccan culture of the Kasbahs will leave you asking for more.

Itinerary

0700h (07:00am): You will be picked up from your centrally located hotel in Marrakech for this tour. Hotel pick-up is not possible at Riads in the Medina. If your hotel is not a pick-up location, please assemble at the central starting point at Holidays Services Agency in Marrakech, Complex Kawkab Center, Rue Imam Chafaï, Jnan El Harti, Guéliz.

Set out in an air-conditioned bus with your bilingual guide (English and French-speaking) for a sightseeing tour of Ouarzazate.

The breakdown of your itinerary is as follows:

1030h (10:30am): Arrive at Aït Ben Haddou and enjoy a 15-minute photo stop at this world-famous Kasbah. Boasting a dramatic location, this castle stands in the middle of a field of almond trees, and has been the setting for films such as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

1100h (11:00am): There will be 15-minute stop at Ighrem Nougdal.

1200h (12:00noon): Arrive at Taourirt, set out on a 30-minute guided visit of the second famous Kasbah in this region. It was the former residence of the Glaoui, last sultan of the Atlas The series of rising towers make for a spectacular sight.

1300h (01:00pm): The tour will break for lunch at the Hotel Fint. Your menu consists of a variety of salads, ‚Briouates farcies’, Berber Tagine and fruits of the season. Drinks, coffee and tea are not included.

1445h (02:45pm): Proceed on a 15-minute orientation tour of Ouarzazate by bus.

There will be a 15-minute stop for souvenir and photos at Aguelmousse, one of the most beautiful ksours ( fortified villages ) of the Moroccan south.

2000h (08:00pm): Your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel or the closest drop-off point in Marrakech.
