For your exciting Tafraout Sightseeing Tour from Agadir you will be picked up at 0700h (07:00am) from your hotel.
You will set out for Tafraout in an air-conditioned vehicle with your guide. The excursion takes around 12 hours and you will cover a distance of approximately 400 km (240 miles).
Your journey takes you into the Anti Atlas (or lesser Atlas) Mountains, Morocco's most southerly mountain range. On the way, your guide will tell you about the region and you will have several photo-stops.
After the village of Aït Baha, the road begins to climb. You will enter a dramatic desert landscape of jagged peaks, giant boulders and red-walled canyons, softened by lush green oases. Scattered about the hills you will see the mud huts of the Berbers, surrounded by cultivated terraces.
You will also see the oil-producing argan trees, with their twisted trunks, typical of this area. Local goats clamber along the gnarled tree trunks and branches to feed on the leaves and fruit and your vehicle will stop so you can take take pictures.
You will have a photo-stop at the splendid fortified village (agadir) of Ida ou Gnidif and a 20-minute coffee break (payable direct) at Madaou Oasis at around 1000h (10:00am).
Around 1100h (11:00am) you will make another stop to view the idyllic Ameln Valley before proceeding to the village of Aguerdoudad, with its striking pink granite rocks, where you stop for about 30 minutes. Along the road you will see many incredible natural rock formations.
Shortly after midday, you reach Tafraout, with its brightly painted houses. You will have time to stroll through this attractive little town and browse the souk for local handicrafts.
There will be a stop for lunch (payable direct, approx 15US$, 120 MAD). The Hotel Les Amandiers is recommended.
At around 1415h (2:15pm), you board your vehicle and set off for the city of Tiznit. On the way, you have photo-stops at the village of Aday and the Col du Kerdous. You will arive at Tiznit around 1630h (4:30pm).
Founded in 1881, Tiznit is quite a young city for Morocco. It is famous for silver jewelry and its red crenellated walls of packed earth. You will have just under an hour to explore, and check out the jewelry quarter. If the silver seems too cheap, it may be 'Berber silver', an alloy of silver nickel and lead.
Around 1730 (5:30pm), you will board your vehicle for the return to Agadir. There will be a coffee break (payable direct) and photo-stops on the way.
You will arrive in Agadir at around 1900h (07:00pm) and will be dropped off back at your hotel.
