Overview

Melbourne is famous for its picturesque laneways and arcades, many of them dating from Victorian times.

Explore the maze of narrow alleys with an expert guide and discover the city’s hidden gems. Local designers, cool urban art, interesting architecture and lots of history can all be found in Melbourne’s beautiful back streets.

Covering more than 30 stores, the walk includes morning tea, a Goodie Bag, map and a shopping guide. Enjoy lunch and a glass of wine after the tour.

This urban adventure is fun for out-of-town visitors and locals alike.

Itinerary

To join the tour you should meet your guide outside ‘Time Out’ Cafe in Federation Square, on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets. You will then set off to explore the warren of lanes and alleys that snake their way through the city.

Melbourne’s laneways began life as rear access to properties facing big streets. Many were later roofed as ‘arcades’ to provide refuge from the weather and crowds and to provide more space for shops. They are now an important part of the city’s heritage and are often used as the backdrop to films and TV series.

On this indulgent morning walk you’ll visit more than 30 stores in the lanes and arcades and get all kinds of insider tips on the best cafes, specialty shops, restaurants and bars. Morning tea is provided and you will also enjoy lunch and a glass of wine at a restaurant after the tour.

And there’s more! All guests will be given a Goodie Bag, map and a useful shopping guide. The tour ends at Caboose Restaurant, City Square.
