Trekking in Atlas mountains
If you feel you've seen all Marrakech has to offer, head for the hills. Isango offers a range of guided treks, exploring remote Berber villages and the terrain of the Atlas Mountains. For the two-day (one night) trek along the Toubkal valley, an English-speaking guide will meet you at any Marrakech hotel, then drive you to the Berber town of Imlil (1,740 meters), from which the circular hikes start. One night is spent at the Toubkal mountain refuge. When to go? Potentially all year, but from December to mid-April snow and ice could alter some paths and prevent you from reaching the top of Jbel Toubkal.
How? Isango (020 7631 0109: www.isango.com) arrages excursions in the Atlas, but not flights to or accommodation in Marrakech, where you will need to spend at least one night before and after the trek. A two-day (one night) trek into the Toubkal valley costs from £178 per person
