Mataram, the capital city of Lombok region, lies on the western coast of Indonesia and at the centre of the Malay Archipelago . It includes the port town of Ampenan , Mataram and Cakranegara cities and the settlement of Sweta. You could make a visit to Pura Lingsar, the only shrine in the world where both Hindus and Muslims come to worship together. The Barat museum of Negeri nussa tenggara provides an overview of the culture of Lombok . For the shopaholics, go to Cakranegara, for a variety of fooding and shopping. Visit Taman Mayura and Taman Narmada to see the royal remains of some of the kings. Sun yourselves at the Batu Bolong and Kuta Beaches . Off the Lombok coast, three Gili islands - Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan together offer clear waters and picturesque coral reefs. Another sight to visit is the Mount Rinjani , a 3,726 metre high strato volcano , the second highest peak in Indonesia and is regarded as the abode of deities by the locals. A visit to Mataram is incomplete without seeing the Sindang Gile waterfalls, about 75 km north of Lombok . Beautiful as it is, the waterfall is set in dense, cool, and lush surroundings.
