    Itinerary

    Day 1: London – Paris:

On this tour, you will be accompanied by a multi-lingual tour director whilst touring.

You will be picked up from the hotel or from the pick up point and will travel in a coach to Dover where you can see its famous White Cliffs. From Dover, board a ferry and cross the sea to enter France.

Then board a coach and travel across Somme Battlefields to Paris and check into hotel Pullman Paris La Defense. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, very near Paris’s main avenue, the Champs Elysées. The hotel has comfortably furnished rooms, a multi-cuisine restaurant and all other modern amenities.

Later enjoy a welcome drink with the tour director and spend the night at the hotel.

    Day 2: Paris Sightseeing:

After a buffet breakfast, go on a sightseeing tour with a local guide traveling in a motor coach. Drive along Paris’s most famous tree-lined avenue, Champs Elysées, which is lined with fashionable boutiques and shops. Continue down that same road to the Arc de Triomphe, of the most famous monuments in Paris and which is engraved with the names of generals who commanded French troops during Napoleon's regime.

When you reach the Eiffel Tower, disembark and ascend to the second level for panoramic views of the Seine and the city. Next you will see the Notre Dame Cathedral, an imposing Gothic style cathedral, and then you will have time at leisure explore this enchanting city further or perhaps to take an excursion to the Louvre Museum to see the ‘Mona Lisa’.

Return to the hotel to spend the night.

    Day 3: Paris – Lucerne:

After an early buffet breakfast, you will be driven through the Burgundy vineyards, seeing the hill-top castle of Châteauneuf. The castle was built by the Popes when they ruled from Avignon. You will continue past the remains of the Maginot line at Belfort, a line of concrete and steel defenses erected in the 1930s along the French-German border, to reach the Swiss border at Basel and continue to the lakeside resort of Lucerne. At Lucerne, you will check into Grand Hotel Europe. This comfortable hotel is situated near lake Lucerne and offers panoramic views of the mountains and the lake. The hotel has a bar, a multi-cuisine restaurant and other modern amenities.

Later see the Chapel Bridge, Europe’s oldest wooden bridge, and the Lion Monument. It was built in memory of Louis XVI's Swiss Guards who died protecting Louis XVI and Mary Antoinette from a furious mob.

Return to the hotel for dinner.

After dinner, you may take a walk along the lakeshore.

Spend the night at the hotel.

    Day 4: Lucerne – Florence:

After a buffet breakfast, you may take a trip up a nearby mountain or shop for Swiss souvenirs. Later, board the coach and drive via the Gotthard range into Ticino and cross Lake Lugano into Italy.

Continue past Lake Como and Milan across the Lombardy Plain and the Apennine Hills to arrive in Tuscany. Check into hotel Raffaello in Renaissance Florence. The rooms are comfortably furnished with an in-room climate control system that allows you to control the temperature of the room. The multi-cuisine restaurant offers excellent local Florentine and Tuscan cuisine. The hotel has all other modern amenities.

Enjoy a special dinner at a local Trattoria. Trattoria is an Italian-style restaurant that has a cosy ambience and more of a personal touch compared to other bigger restaurants. Florentine food is renowned for being simple but delicious. Ingredients include lots of olive oil, tomatoes, beans, herbs, ham and salami. Make sure to taste cheeses like pecorino and ricotta and try all the different breads.

Return to the hotel to spend the night.

    Day 5: Florence - Rome:

After a buffet breakfast, accompanied by a local city guide, go on a walking tour. You will see the Cathedral, Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, notable for its dome and the marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white on its exterior, and the Baptistery. Later see Giotto’s Belltower which stands on the Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo) and is an excellent example of the Florentine Gothic style. Its architecture and multi-hued marble encrustations have made it very popular with tourists.

See the Signoria Square, built around the 13th century and which has for centuries been the political and civic centre of Florence. This square contains important works of art like the the bronze statues of Perseus by Cellini. Later visit Santa Croce church, the church of the Franciscans which is an excellent example of Italian Gothic architecture.

You will then have time to shop for leather and gold, and the tour director will show you a ‘hidden treasure’ before you continue to the ‘Eternal City’, Rome.

At Rome, check into Melia Aurelia Antica. The hotel is situated close to the city centre and has comfortable-furnished rooms, a multi-cuisine restaurant that serves special Italian and Spanish cuisine and other modern amenities.

Spend the night at the hotel.

    Day 6: Rome Sightseeing:

After a buffet breakfast, accompanied by a local guide, go on a sightseeing tour. Visit St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican where we see the famous ‘Pieta’ by Michelangelo. The Pieta is a subject of art. It depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus.

Then you will cross the Tiber river into ancient Rome where you will see the Forum, the area around which ancient Rome developed. Today you can see the remains of important buildings and temples. See the Colosseum, an elliptical amphitheater considered the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. It is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. Also see the Circus Maximus. Once the largest stadium in Rome, today it is a park.
