Instead, you’ll view intriguing and provoking art exactly where it’s meant to be seen – on the street. Find dark and dingy corners embellished with vibrant, rainbow coloured paintings, strange installations, propaganda posters or giant angry lettering.
See the gritty, tough or humorous work of artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Space Invader.
In East London’s crucible of creativity, the art is fragile and transient. Work can be destroyed, painted over or removed at any moment. The juxtaposition of different pieces is totally random and unpredictable on any one day.
This tour is huge fun for Londoners and visitors alike. Don’t miss it!
Jump into a cauldron of creative energy on the Insider London Walking Tours: Street Art – Shoreditch and Brick Lane experience.
Shoreditch and Brick Lane make up one of the most exciting parts of London. The population is young, dynamic and full of imagination. What’s more, Shoreditch and Brick Lane, together with Spitalfields, comprise what one might call, ‘the square mile of art’; a de factor open air art gallery; with graffiti, posters and paste-ups displayed on the main roads, down the side streets and in all the nooks and crannies of this post-industrial environment.
This international hub of graffiti culture is home to works by Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader – and a host of talented emerging local artists like Dr. D.
Your 2-hour urban odyssey explores East London's ever-changing street art scene, which means each tour is not only cutting-edge but also unique. The tour begins at Old Street and makes its way down Curtain Road to Spitalfields, winds through Brick Lane and finishes in the Truman Brewery Complex. Guests see traditional spray can art, but also wheat-pasting, street sculpture, installation, and visit a popular shop and gallery patronised by local artists.
The tour ends at the car park of the Truman Brewery.
Please call the activity operator at least 24 hours prior to start of the tour for reconfirming departure details.
