Overview

On this sightseeing tour from Naples, travel to two of the hottest destinations in Italy: Pompeii and the spectacular Amalfi Coast.

This excursion starts in the past and keeps you locked in its embrace for 2 hours as an ancient civilization unfolds before your eyes. Central heating, fast-food restaurants, irrigation, public baths and roads built to last 2,000 years – this was Pompeii at the height of the Roman Empire.

Head towards an incredible, winding road to the hill-top town of Ravello to enjoy some amazing views out over the town of Amalfi and the sea.

Rugged, sheer cliffs; shimmering blue sea; the wonderful scent of citrus and olive groves; Saracen-inspired architecture makes the Amalfi Coast one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Combine this with a tour of the largest and best preserved Roman city in the world and you have the perfect excursion!

Itinerary

You will be picked up from your hotel or cruise ship in Naples in a private air-conditioned car for your Amalfi Coast and Pompeii Tour. A guide in your preferred language (Italian, English, German, French or Russian) will accompany you throughout the tour.

There will be stops made for refreshments and lunch (payable direct), to help quench your thirst in the thick Italian heat.

The drive to Pompeii is approximately 30 minutes. Your guided tour of Pompeii is approximately 2 hours.

Pompeii is one of Italy’s most precious archeological sites. It is incredibly well preserved. The ancient city of Pompeii was suddenly wiped off the map in 79 A.D. ; buried under 6 meters of volcanic ash. Although most of the 20,000 inhabitants didn’t survive, much of their city did. This UNESCO World Heritage site has been carefully excavated to reveal its former glory.

Stroll down the streets grooved deeply from the chariot wheels, have a look at the amazing mosaics and murals and walk around the public baths. At the time of Pompeii’s height, the rest of Europe was still living in mud-huts and the Romans were enjoying central heating and saunas.

As you exit Pompeii, you’ll head towards an incredible, winding road to the hill-top town of Ravello to enjoy some amazing views out over the town of Amalfi and the sea. The drive from Pompeii to Ravello is approximately 40 minutes. You’ll then be given 2 hours to spend in Ravello.

Take time to enjoy an optional visit to Villa Rufolo (payable direct), one of the many historical villas in the town and one of the finest residences in the area.

Next you’ll zip over to Amalfi, a 10 minute drive from Ravello. Amalfi is famous for its hand-crafted paper as well as the beautiful Cathedral dedicated to Saint Andrew. You’ll be given approximately 1.5 hours in Amalfi.

Next, you’ll visit Positano, nestled amongst the cliffs and famous the world over for its little white-washed houses dotted with bursts of color from the fragrant flowers which spill from the window-boxes. It is a 10 minute drive from Amalfi, and you be given 10 minutes to soak in the vibe of Positano.

This memorable tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel/ cruise ship in Naples.
