The spectacular Belfast Day Tour From Dublin takes you from Dublin to the historic city of Belfast in Northern Ireland. To join the tour, make your way to the tourist office in the Old Church, Suffolk Street, Dublin City Centre. During the tour there will be stops every 1 ½ hours or so, in order that you can stretch your legs.
After leaving Dublin, the first stop of the day will be Drogheda, a town with a remarkable history. Don’t mention the name of Cromwell here, as your guide will tell you! You will get to see the relic of Archbishop Oliver Plunkett, the last Roman Catholic martyr to die in England. He was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn in 1681 and his head rests in St. Peter's Church in Drogheda.
From Drogheda you proceed to Monasterboice, in its wonderful countryside setting. Here you will stop for 45 minutes and find a monastery with a round tower, Ireland's second highest cross and some Ogham scripture.
Your coach then leaves the Republic and your first stop in Northern Ireland (30 minutes) will be a very old dolmen called Proleek Dolmen, where you will have the opportunity to discover your true love!
You will arrive in Belfast City around midday and have time for a coffee and lunch (payable direct) in a traditional pub in Belfast. You will also have time to walk around at leisure before the next stage of the tour.
In the afternoon, you meet the local guides who will take you to all the main areas of town in an open top bus and give you a humorous and entertaining commentary. In this fascinating 90-minute tour, you will learn a lot about the Belfast’s architecture, culture, sport, and politics, and about the dynamic energy that the city has now got.
The local tour takes you to Stormont, the parliament of Northern Ireland, City Hall, the yard where RMS Titanic was built, Falls Road and also the Shankill Road before making your way to the Republican museum. This is the only day tour that visits this amazing museum. Your guides will talk about experiences through the ‘Troubles’ and describe the current situation regarding cross-community relations and development within the communities. This is an extremely interesting and eye opening tour. You will visit the Peace Wall and have the opportunity to write your name on the wall that divides the Protestant and Catholic communities even to this day.
You will spend a total of 3 hours in Belfast. At 1700h (5.00 pm) you depart for Dublin and can expect to be dropped back at the starting point by 2000h (8.00 pm) at the latest. Enjoy a pint and relax back in the capital!
