The island of Bali in Indonesia is a great place to holiday not just for its beaches and scenery, but also for its temples. This fantastic 4 day provides an in-depth tour of the temples of Bali and their significance to the local community.
Take a trip to Ulun Danu, an amazing eleven-tier thatched roof Buddhist temple. You will find beautifully landscaped gardens with an abundance of flowering plants around the temple. Admire the beauty of the huge offshore sentinel rock of Tanah Lot that supports a small sea temple. The temple is believed to be guarded by large sea snakes that reside in caves below the waterline.
For a flavour of life in an artisan village you will take a trip to the villages of Celuk famous for its gold and silver jewellery making and Mas known for its intricate wood carvings.
With three nights accommodation and many meals included in the price this is the perfect hassle-free tour for those who want to explore the "real" Bali.
Day 1: South Bali - Lovina
You will be picked up from the airport/your hotel in south Bali (such as Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Sanur, Kita, Seminyak, and Canggu) by your English-speaking guide, and then depart by an air-conditioned luxury coach to explore the unspoiled countryside and village of the back roads.
Travelling through thick tropical forest beneath Mount Batukaru, you’ll reach the Luhur Batukaru Temple and the beautiful rice terraces at Jatiluwih.
Lunch will be provided at Umeluang Sari Restaurant in Baturiti.
Continue to Candi Kuning fruit and flower market with its exotic wild orchids, roses and even strawberries.
The next stop is Bedugul – an attractive mountain resort located 850m above sea level. Serene Lake Beratan fills the ancient crater of Mount Batukaru. Its pretty temple Ulun Danu Temple on the water’s edge, is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of the waters. Continue your trip by following the road, with a scenic side trip through the charming little village of Munduk, home of Bali’s coffee plantations. Enjoy a coffee break with beautiful scenery in Munduk.
Then drive to Banjar village, where you will find a serene Buddhist monastery and a holy hot spring that is said to have originated from volcanic activities.
Proceed to Lovina for check-in at your hotel.
Day 2: Lovina - Candidasa
Early in the morning, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and you will set out by boat for the Dolphin trip.
Afterward back to the hotel for a hot shower and breakfast. After breakfast, depart by minivan for sightseeing transfer to Candidasa.
En route visit the Sangsit village, a few kilometres east of Singaraja where you can see the Beji Temple. This is a temple dedicated to the goddess Dewi Sri, who looks after irrigated rice fields.
Stop at Kintamani to enjoy your lunch with spectacular views of Mount Batur. You can see ribbons of black lava running down from its peak into the valley below and also the crater lake.
Continue to Besakih Temple, also known as the ‘Mother Temple of Bali’, on the slopes of the holy Mount Agung and Putung.
Proceed to your hotel in Candidasa area.
Day 3: Candidasa - Ubud
After breakfast at your hotel, set out with your guide in an air-conditioned luxury coach. Drive through south coast to the village of Kastala where you will start the trek. Cross a small river and walk through rice fields. There will be an opportunity to watch the farmers working on their land.
Afterwards, you will discover the village of Gumung, which means on the ‘top of the hill’, and then you will walk on slowly till Tenganan village. This village is occupied by Bali Aga people, descendants of the original Balinese who inhabited Bali prior to the Majapahit arrival. The village is surrounded by a wall and consists basically of two rows of identical houses stretching up the gentle slope of the hill.
Lunch will be provided at local restaurant.
Afterward, you will drive to Ubud. En-route visit Goa Lawah, the Bat Cave Temple in the cliff face that is jam-packed with bats that fly out after dusk. This will be followed by a visit to Kertha Gosa, the ‘Hall of Justice’ which was effectively the supreme court of the Klungkung kingdom and visit Kehen Temple.
Arrive in Ubud and check into your hotel.
Day 4: Ubud - South Bali
After breakfast, depart by minivan for sightseeing transfer to South Bali. On the way visit the 17th century holy spring, Gunung Kawi temple at Sebatu, known for its fine woodcarvers; and, Celuk, the center of gold and silver works.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Afterwards, proceed to Taman Ayun, the former Royal temple of Mengwi, the second largest complex on the island, surrounded by a moat.
The last stop will be made at Tanah Lot temple, built on a rock overlooking the scenic west coast of Bali and the Indian Ocean.
Your tour ends here and you will be dropped off either at your hotel in south Bali or directly transferred to the airport for your flight onward.
