Itinerary

Explore Delhi’s best Mughal sites in the company of an English speaking guide on the Mughal Delhi Tour. At the start of the excursion, you will be picked up from your hotel at the time pre-arranged with the tour operator.

Accompanied by your guide, you will then take the modern Metro Rail to Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi. Walk to Delhi’s most famous mosque, Jama Masjid. The Jama Masjid was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who also built the Taj Mahal. It was completed in 1656 AD. The courtyard of the mosque can hold up to 25,000 worshiper.

Explore the busy markets in the area before continuing on to the Red Fort. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Year 2007. It was once the residence of the royal family and affectionately called ‘Qila-i-Mubarak’, (‘The Blessed Fort’). The fort’s design represents the zenith of Mughal creativity which prevailed during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan.

After visiting the Red Fort, enjoy a typical Indian lunch at a restaurant and try some sumptuous Mughlai dishes.

Continue on to southern New Delhi and visit Humayun's Tomb and Qutub Minar. Humayun's Tomb set a benchmark for Mughal mausoleums in India, the crowning achievement of which is the Taj Mahal at Agra.

Humayun's Tomb was commissioned by Hamida Banu Begum for her husband, the Emperor Humayun, in 1562 CE. Its design was based on Persian architecture and it was the first structure in Delhi to use red sandstone.

The Qutub Minar is the world’s tallest brick minaret with a height of 72.5 meters (237.8 feet). Built in stages during the 12th and 13th centuries by Muslim conquerors of Delhi, it is notable for being one of the earliest and most prominent examples of Indo- Islamic architecture. It is surrounded by several other ancient and medieval structures and ruins, collectively known as the Qutub Complex.

Your trip comes to an end at Connaught Place. Nearby street markets at Janpath are a shopper’s paradise with handicrafts, souvenirs, traditional clothes, wood work, glass work, bangles all available.

You can choose to continue to explore on your own or your guide can arrange a taxi back to your hotel.

Dos & Don'ts
Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate. Wear comfortable shoes for walking. In some places of worship you may be required to cover your head, so women may like to carry a scarf for this purpose
