The Government Museum and Art Gallery: The museum is considered one of the finest in India. It has separate sections devoted to anthropology, botany, geology, numismatics, sculpture and zoology. The main attractions at the museum are the relics from the 2nd century AD Buddhist site 'Amaravati' and the souvenirs of prehistoric South India. The museum also has a vast collection of South Indian musical instruments and jewellery which are worth seeing. The Art Gallery has a fine collection of paintings, handicrafts and bronze. You can see bronzes from 10th and 13th century, paintings in the Mughal and Rajasthan style that date back to 16th century and Indian handicrafts from the 11th and 12th century over here.
Kapaleeshwarar Temple: This ancient temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. The gopuram (gateway tower) is characteristic of the Dravidian style of architecture. This temple has some beautiful sculptures, among which the bronze idols of 63 Saivite saints (Nayanmars), which adorn the outer courtyard are beautiful.
Later drive past Fort St. George, Marina Beach which is Chennai’s most popular beach, and Santhome Cathedral.
You will then be dropped back at your hotel where the tour ends.
