The Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan as the mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal. Constructed entirely out of white marble, it is an architectural masterpiece with four minarets, beautiful inlay work and marble screens.
Often described as a teardrop on the cheek of time, it is also one of the most famous historical landmarks of India and reflects the grandeur and wealth of the Mughal empire. In the morning, the magnificence of the building is enhanced by the soft light which makes it a memorable sight!
You will be picked up from your hotel and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle, accompanied by an English-speaking guide to visit the Taj Mahal.
Although this architectural masterpiece looks stunning at all times, you will be impressed and fascinated by the changing colours of the Taj as the sun rises higher up in the sky. From a dusky pink in pale sunlight to glorious white in bright sunlight, the Taj Mahal's fine pietra dura (marble inlay work) and marble screens seem to undergo many changes depending on the amount of light.
Listen to your guide tell you how it took 17 years and 20,000 skilled craftsmen from India and Central Asia to bring to life Emperor Shah Jehan's mausoleum for his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
After your visit to the Taj, you will be dropped back to your hotel where the tour ends.
