Overview

Snæfellsnes has captured the imagination of people all over the world, ever since Jules Verne wrote “The Journey to the Centre of the Earth” in 1871. This tour is "must do" day full of pristine landscape in Iceland’s youngest national park.

Situated at the foot of a volcano and a glacier, the Snæfellsnes National Park is the first national park that was established in Iceland. This active volcano, which stands 1,446 m high, is the background for Jules Vernes' famous Journey to the Center of the Earth.

The tour covers the following sites:

The Snæfellsnes Glacier: (1446m) Snæfellsnes glacier is believed by many to be one of the earth's seven major mystical power spots. One of Iceland's most beautiful glaciers, 1,446 metres high, it sits on top of a dormant volcano at the tip of Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Arnarstapi Harbour: Continue along the coastline with its rugged terrain and onwards passing the Arnarstapi harbour, small and picturesque, with basalt columns. A stunning harbor girded by pristine waters and cliff-lines shores, Arnarstapi becomes a tourist magnet in summers.

Djúpalónssandur: Take a short walk along the beautiful beach at Djúpalónssandur. On the way you will pass Gatklettur, an interestingly-shaped cliff with a hole in it.

On your way back to Reykjavík, pass through some quaint little fishing villages, including the Ólafsvík village, on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, close to the glacier Snæfellsjökull.
