Sail close enough to the shore of the Athos peninsula in Halkidiki and see the spectacular monasteries clinging to the cliffs; but this is as close as you can get, as access is allowed to men only! The Greeks refer to Mount Athos as “The Holy Mountain” where no females (not even female animals) and children are allowed access.

Although it is considered to be a part of Greece, Mount Athos is an independent monastic state. It is ruled by the 1700 monks who live in its 20 monasteries, some of which date back to the ninth century.

Visit the pretty resort of Ouranoupolis and sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the band on board on your return journey. This day is a combination of history, relaxation and a chance to explore the area.

Itinerary

The tour begins from the Oceania Club in Nea Moudania.

Reach the wharf and board your cruise vessel. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, set out on a scenic cruise to Mount Athos, the ‘Holy Mountain’.

Sail close enough to the shore of the Athos peninsula for you to see the spectacular monasteries clinging to the cliffs. Although it is considered to be a part of Greece, it is an autonomous republic. It is ruled by the 1700 monks who live in its 20 monasteries, some of which date back to the ninth century.

After enjoying your leisurely cruise along the peninsula, there is free time for lunch (payable direct) in the pretty resort of Ouranoupolis.

On your return journey, sit back, relax and enjoy the sounds of the band on board and even join in with some Greek dancing!
