Visit the infamous island of Spinalonga and uncover the island’s mysterious past.

This small island at the entrance of Elounda Bay is famed for its impregnable fortress which has been a silent sentinel to the island’s chequered history. Built by the Venetians, then occupied by the Turks, in 1903 the fortress was finally converted into a leper colony.

Today, the unoccupied island with its abandoned fortress and small pebble beaches is one of the main tourist attractions in Crete.

Enjoy a boat ride in one of Crete’s most scenic areas, the Mirabello Bay, and take a dive in its clear waters. This is easily one of the most popular excursions on Crete.

Itinerary

The tour begins from Medical Centre Hersonissos. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, set out in an air-conditioned coach for a sightseeing tour of Spinalonga Island in Crete.

Visit the abandoned fortress which was till 1903 a leper colony, and see visible signs of Venetian occupation of the island. Take a walking tour of the village.

Shake off the ghosts of the past and abandon yourself to a one-hour cruise in the crystal blue waters of the picture-perfect Mirabello Bay. There will be photo stops along the way in Crete’s most scenic area.

Those inclined to test the waters can surrender themselves to the joys of swimming and diving in this beautiful Bay.

Follow the cruise with a delicious BBQ lunch consisting of meat balls and souvlaki, mixed salad, feta cheese and bread.

After a memorable day, the tour returns to the starting point.
