The tour starts from Munich Central Train Station (Hauptbahnhof) located in the area directly opposite tracks 32-34. You will be met by your English-speaking guide and taken on a 1½ hour train journey from Munich to the city of Nuremberg.
Nuremberg is one of Germany's most famous cities and its name is popular throughout the world for the drama associated with the 20th century history. This was where the Third Reich strutted in all its pomp against an epic backdrop of grandiose marching grounds.
Visit the historic old town and the Nazi Party Rally Grounds. Learn from you knowledgeable guide why Hitler transformed 11 square kilometers of the city into a vast rally ground. Nuremberg was the old seat of the imperial parliament whose legacy Hitler sought to distort by hosting the special sitting of his puppet Reichstag that passed the notorious ‘Nuremberg race laws’. It denied citizenship to Jewish Germans and was an ominous prelude to the coming Holocaust. Today the old rally grounds host a major Third Reich Documentation Centre that maps this painful history in detail and represents evidence of Nuremberg’s determination to come to terms with its past.
See the medieval city walls, the striking 15th century gothic church – Lorenzkirche, the 14th century Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) dominating the Main Market. You will also be taken to the 700-year-old Hauptmarkt town market square, a market place that bustles with life throughout the year. You will come across shops selling fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and a range of fine cheese. Also see the stunning Kaiserburg, an ancient imperial castle.
After exploring Nuremberg’s rich heritage, take a train ride back to Munich. The tour ends at Munich Central Train Station.
