The tour is available in two options: Option A: Half day tour of Nimes and Option B: Full day tour of Nimes.
You will be picked up in an air-conditioned minivan from your hotel in Nimes and taken on a sightseeing tour of the city. A bilingual guide speaking English and French will accompany you on this tour.
This is a private tour which means you can design your own perfect itinerary. Your guide will be able to advise you on the best tour for your party.
You may choose to visit the Roman Amphitheatre from the 1st or 2nd century AD. It was once filled with medieval housing when its walls served as ramparts, but they were cleared under Napoleon. It is still today used as a bullfighting and concert arena.
Perhaps proceed to the Maison Carree (Square House), a small Roman temple dedicated to the sons of Agrippa, built in 19th century.
Continue to the 18th century Jardines de la Fontaine (Garden of the Fountain) which is spread in the area of former fortified ramparts. As you explore the garden, you will come across life-size baroque statues and a variety of flora.
Head to the Pont de Gard, a beautiful 2000 year-old Roman aqueduct that until recently supplied over 40 million gallons of water daily to the city of Nimes. Surprisingly, this gigantic stone structure has no mortar – the stones are made to fit together in a rather seamless fashion and using the arches the weight supports itself. The monument is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You could visit the nearby Mont Cavalier crowned by the Great Tower (a ruined tower). You could also visit the cathedral dedicated to Saint Castor of Apt, a native of the city. The cathedral, spread on the site of the temple of Augustus, is partly Romanesque and partly gothic in style.
After exploring all the attractions of historical Nimes, you will be dropped back to your hotel.
