Overview

A gem of the Provence region, the medieval fishing village of Cassis sits peacefully among geological wonders.

The sheer, towering cliffs of the Cap of Canaille make the boats in the Gulf of Cassis appear tiny as toys, while the Massif of Gardiole holds dominion over the horizon.

Take a maritime tour around the gulf and pass a tranquil afternoon among the old buildings and cozy cafés of Cassis.

Itinerary

Your driver/guide will pick you up in an air-conditioned vehicle Cliffs of Cassis Sightseeing tour. Your guide speaks French and English.

Wind along the Gineste and Crests roads to a vista overlooking Cap Canaille, which translates as “the mountain that swims into the sea.” The highest maritime cliffs in Europe, reaching some 394 meters into the sky, form a colossal stone rampart that looks down from on high to the emerald waters of the Gulf of Cassis.

In the distance you can see the Massif of Gardiole, an awe-inspiring range of rock that extends for more than 5000 hectares along the coast of the Villenueve-les Maguelone.

Board a maritime tour to discover the Calanques, the steep, limestone inlets that jut out from the rocky coastline and give way to small, lovely beaches.

Free time for lunch (not included) on your own during the day.

Panoramic tour of the city of Marseille on the way back, including a photo stop at Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica. From this hill, enjoy an breathtaking view on the Phocaean city, the Frioul islands and If Castle. Drive on the Corniche Road, a symbol of holiday and outward sign of wealth for merchants and bourgeois from the 19th century who built magnificent houses with many ostentatious splendid features. You will then reach Saint-Victor abbey (11th century) that keeps the entry of the Vieux-Port (Old Port).
