Cote d'Azur or the French Riviera is where incredible views of the Mediterranean combine with plenty of sunshine, wine and great food to bring the rich and famous to its shores. Roman ruins, a rich history and cultural festivals also draw travellers to the French Riviera. The fashionable cities of Nice and St Tropez are where the wealthy rub shoulders, and yachts jostle for space in the harbour. Exclusive restaurants, chic boutiques and beachside promenades also make these cities popular with visitors. Monaco is where the high rollers like to spend their time and it’s particularly well-known for the most famous Grand Prix in the world. Cannes is at its glitzy best in May, when the International Film Festival makes it the centre of the cinematic universe. Glamour apart, the French Riviera has a less publicised side to it with small hill towns, ancient chateaux and corniches (coastal roads) which offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean.
