Explore the major attractions of Arles, the largest city in France on the banks of the Rhone river, surrounded by the arid plains of Crau. See the famous Roman amphitheatre, the necropolis and the thermal baths of Constantine. Built around 90 AD, the Amphitheatre could hold up to 20,000 spectators of gladiator fights and animal hunts. Interestingly, the major attractions such as the Amphitheatre, the Roman Arena and Theatre are nestled in the center of daily life rather than tucked away in the outskirts.

Arles is also known as the city of festivals, art and culture. Stroll around this quaint city and see the sites that were once captured on the canvas by legendary painter Vincent Van Gogh. As you explore further, you will notice that the narrow streets of Arles are truly medieval in character, winding between ancient buildings and houses.

Itinerary

The tour is available in two options: Option A: Half day tour of Arles and Option B: Full day tour of Arles.

You will be picked up in an air-conditioned minivan from your hotel in Arles and taken on a sightseeing tour of the city. A bilingual guide speaking English and French will accompany you on this tour.

Some of the sites you may want to see are the Roman monuments in Arles such as the Roman Amphitheatre, the theatre, the necropolis, and the Thermal baths of Constantine. The arena, the best preserved of all the monuments, is central in the town, and is still used for various grand spectacles. Constantine thermal baths were a part of grand palace, no longer in existence. You could then proceed to the 2000-year old Place du Forum, still a lively heart of the city. Other attractions include: Town Hall, Saturday flea markets and Museum of Arles and Provence. Built on the remains of an ancient basilica, the museum is home to an impressive collection of Provencal folk art, furniture, costumes, ceramics, tools and farming implements.

After exploring the major attractions of Arles, you will be dropped back to your hotel.
