Nile Valley Tours, Sightseeing and Things to do

The Nile River Valley is a canyon about 660 miles long, with a floodplain occupying 4,250 square miles. Excavations have revealed thousands of tombs, temples and monuments along the banks of the river Nile, and the best place to explore some of these relics are Luxor and Aswan. The two temples of Abu Simbel, the Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor, cut out of sandstone cliffs, are among the most magnificent in the world. The four colossal statues guarding the entrance to the Grand Hall of the Temple of Ramses will impress you. If you are interested in history, visit the Nubian Museum and also see the main place of worship in Theban times, the massive Temple of Karnak, an incredibly impressive structure. One of ancient Egypt’s great architectural achievements, the Hypostyle Hall, is full of enormous stone pillars bearing engraved and painted inscriptions from the 12th Dynasty. The complex also contains the Avenue of the Sphinxes, the Sacred Lake, and many huge statues, halls, ornate wall murals, obelisks, and colonnades.
