Bask in the scenic splendours of KwaZulu-Natal as you meander your way to the ‘Kingdom of the Sky’, Lesotho. Cloaked in clouds and situated at the highest pass in South Africa, the Sani Pass, Lesotho is a sight to behold.
The Sani Pass is a spectacular mountain road and is the entry point into Lesotho from South Africa’s Natal Drakensberg Park. Sani Pass is the gateway to the ‘Roof of Africa’ scenic route that links the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg with the mountains of northern Lesotho.
Visit the second largest ethnic group in South Africa - the Sotho people - residing there. In addition to their dominant occupation, which is rearing cattle and cultivating grains and tobacco, the Sotho people are gifted craftsmen as well.
Bag some exquisite products made of metal, leather, wood and ivory. Living a simple life, these warm-hearted people will readily welcome you to their cosy homes. What's more, don't miss the opportunity to dine in the highest pub in Africa!
Surrounded by the blissful environs of the towering Drakensberg Range blanketed with clouds, this trip to Lesotho will be an out-of-the-world experience!
What's the plan:
You will be picked up from your hotel and taken in an air-conditioned vehicle from Durban through the Natal Midlands takes you to the town of Underberg located at the foot of Drakensberg escarpment.
A scenic drive from Durban to Underberg, where you will be transferred to a 4x4 vehicle for the ascent of the spectacular Sani Pass, often called the 'Roof of Africa'. This Pass climbs 1300m over a distance of 12km, into the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.
A professional English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour. Visit a small Sotho village here and enjoy the warm hospitality of this friendly tribe.
Light lunch at Sani Top Chalet, Africa’s highest pub at 2874m., and enjoy majestic views of the Drakensberg Mountains.
Return to Underberg where you will re-board your air conditioned vehicle for the journey back to Durban.
At the end of this memorable journey, you will be dropped back to your hotel in Durban.
